Welcome MPA's new Administrative Director, Deborah A. Matese

Please join us in welcoming MPA's new Administrative Director, Deborah A. Matese. Debi is a self-directed leader with over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector who excels at change management, strategic thinking, and leading teams. She is adept at coaching and developing staff across a wide range of departments and roles, including those responsible for finance, compliance, business development, data, safety and risk management, marketing, and other operations functions. Her experience includes convening and building consensus with teams; introducing best-practices within collaborations; developing and maintaining a team culture that supports high quality services as well as a culture of philanthropy and accountability.

Most recently, Debi spent just over five years at the YWCA Greater Cleveland in a variety of roles. Debi joined the YWCA in December of 2011 as Manager of Data and Evaluation, and was instrumental in helping the organization acquire a data focus in all areas. She also helped their partner—The Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood – do the same, as manager of their data project.

Debi took on increasing levels of responsibility and was elevated to Director of Quality Improvement. As Director, Debi joined the leadership team and oversaw a number of significant projects. In this role, Debi’s strong interpersonal skills as a keen influencer and high relateability supported her continued success.

Promoted to the role of Vice President of Administration in 2015, Debi refocused the HR and benefits function, operationalized the finance function, introduced a technology plan that allowed for annual replacement costs, re-imagined and retooled the YWCA’s Women’s Leadership institute, directed the marketing department, and drove racial justice programming across the organization.

Debi comes to Menlo Park Academy with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Heidelberg University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Walden University. She is the mother of two – Christopher, age 14 and Erin, age 13 – and lives in Fairview Park with her husband, Francis, and their blended family. Debi has been involved on the Board of Directors of JD Breast Cancer Foundation for the past two years, and currently serves as their Vice President. Debi is an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, and horror novels and enjoys spending time watching her kids play whichever sport is in season.

As Administrative Director, Debi will lead all administrative areas of Menlo, including finance, technology, HR, volunteers, development, marketing, and admissions. We are confident that her years of experience with non-profit management, leadership, and demonstrated ability to develop a positive organizational culture will be transformational to the future of Menlo.
